Stitching in the Stacks Librarian-Inspired Knits
Ask most people to picture either a librarian or a knitter, and they're likely to conjure up the same image a stern, older woman with sensible shoes and hair in a bun. Stereotypes aside, there does seem to be a special bond between knitters and libraries. This book celebrates that connection, offering 30 exquisite designs inspired by librarians (real and fictional), library architecture, cataloging systems, and sometimes the books themselves. Each pattern comes with its own story, making this book as fun to read as it is to knit from. Featuring patterns by Brenda K. B. Anderson, Sarah Barbour, Heather Broadhurst, Kristen Hanley Cardozo, Brenda Castiel, Holly Chayes, Cheezombie, Nina Machlin Dayton, Susan Dittrich, Rachel Erin, Carol Feller, Sharon Fuller, Joy Gerhardt, Meghan Jones, Molly Kent, James Magee, Kendra Nitta, Heather Ordover, Theressa Silver, Kristen TenDyke, Alex Tinsley, and Karin Wilmoth.

Stitching in the Stacks LibrarianInspired Knits Sarah Barbour 9781937513238 Books Reviews
I bought the paperback at my LYS. My husband is a retired librarian and there are several things in here that he wants me to make for him. Like the previous reviewer, I appreciate it that larger sizes are included. Some of these sweaters would be very flattering on my short wide self. Cooperative Press first attract4ed my attention at Stitches Midwest a few years ago, with their Big Foot Knits, since I also have wide feet and calves. You go, girls!
I borrowed this from my local library; fell in love with a lot of the patterns, and so got my own copy (pdf download on Ravelry, sorry ) so I could print/mark up/use the patterns. Beautifully produced, lots of white space to scribble notes, but the written-and-charted directions look so clear I won't need many. Many sweaters modeled on (and sized to include) generously endowed persons. Fascinating bits of information with every pattern about the real or fictional libarian who inspired the pattern. There are a few novels I'm putting on my list that I hadn't read. Probably not many patterns for beginning knitters, but plenty for moderate skills.
Nice mix of projects.
